SubID (click id)
SubID (click id, external_id) is a unique click identifier. A postback uses it to tie a deposit to a specific visit, source and ad.
Why subid is needed
It is the link of the whole attribution: without it you cannot tell which click, campaign and creative brought the conversion. The subid travels from the click through the showcase and offer to the postback.
How subid works in a funnel
The tracker generates a subid on the click, it is passed into the offer, and the network returns it in the postback on conversion. So the deposit lands exactly on the right visit and source.
FAQ
- Are SubID and click id the same?
- Yes, they are different names for the same thing: a unique click identifier (also external_id).
- What happens if the subid is lost?
- Attribution breaks: the conversion arrives with no link to click, campaign or creative, and there is nothing to optimize the buy on.
- Who generates the subid?
- Usually the tracker on the click; it is then passed through the showcase and offer and returned in the postback.
